Millthorpe has a designated catchment area and children living within this area are given priority in admissions and are usually allocated a place at the school, subject to the admission limit. Children from outside this area may apply to the Local Authority for a place at the school and the request will be granted if there is space. Full details of how we manage our admissions, including how we allocate places if we are oversubscribed, can be found in our Admissions Policy:

Admissions Policy 2022-223

These FAQs will also be useful – please have a read before you make your application.

If, after receiving details of the school at which your child has been allocated a place, you wish to enquire about alternative places or appeal against a decision, you should contact School Services no later than seven working days after receiving the allocation letter.

All applications for a school place are coordinated by the Local Authority. You should apply to the Local Authority, either by submitting a paper form or online, where this is available.

Millthorpe participates in the Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Admission Scheme for in-year admissions. If parents/carers wish to apply for a school place, applications can be made at https://www.york.gov.uk/SchoolAdmissions via the ParentPortal. The Local Authority will confirm the outcome of the application in writing within 15 school days.  If the application is refused, the Local Authority will advise on the statutory appeal procedure.

Details of the Co-ordinated Admission Scheme and how in-year applications are managed are available at https://www.york.gov.uk/SchoolAdmissions.
