Working together for a successful, safe and happy school
Millthorpe is a friendly and welcoming school and our students and staff work hard to make sure everyone feels included. For the beginning of the new school year we have produced a booklet which we hope gives you an insight into the culture of our school.
Shared values are at the heart of our community and our values inform the approaches we take and the systems we develop. The booklet sets out clearly what you can expect from us, what we expect from our students and suggests important ways in which you can help us to support your child. We have also described the work of our Pastoral and Inclusion Team, to give you a sense of the many different ways in which we support the well-being of students and their families.
Growing up is perhaps more complicated than it used to be and all schools have found that unacceptable use of social media outside school can have a detrimental impact on the well-being of young people. The booklet raises this issue and commits us to developing a strategy with parents, carers and our young people that offers support and clarifies responsibilities.
Finally, I am delighted to tell you that we are the first school in North Yorkshire to have achieved the Young Carers in Schools Silver Award; this comes less than a year after achieving the Bronze Award and we have already begun working towards the Gold.
