Mental Health Awareness Day

The awareness day planned and run by our team of Mental Health Champions, supported by pastoral staff, was a great success. Thank you for your generous donations of money and of baked goods for the cake sale. The total hasn’t been totted up yet but with over £300 raised on ParentPay alone, it will undoubtedly make a big impact on the mental health and wellbeing initiatives we are able to put in place at Millthorpe. Equally important was engaging students across the school in the themes of ‘talking’ – to break down stigma and enabling people to talk about emotional health in the same way as they do about physical health – and the value of acts of kindness to one another. Big thanks to the Mental Health Champions who delivered these messages themselves through assemblies all week, as well as organising the activities on the day. Thanks are due also to the staff who supported them and the teachers who, with good grace, volunteered to be sponged! Finally, well done to Frances Cockburn, Amelie Mackay and Laura Gatus for their prizewinning poster designs.
