Rewards and Sanctions

Good behaviour is most effectively achieved when there are clear expectations of pupil behaviour.

Key Rules

These are displayed in all classrooms so that pupils are constantly aware of them.

  • Pupils must remain in school during school hours unless they have permission to leave the premises.
  • Pupils must wear correct uniform at all times.
  • Pupils must come to lessons properly equipped.
  • Pupils must not spoil or interrupt the progress of lessons.
  • Any form of bullying or intimidation is unacceptable.
  • Homework must be done and handed in on time.

Pupils need to feel that they are valued and their good behaviour and hard work are recognised by the school.

Rewards
  • Positive comments written in pupil planners by all staff.
  • Merits recorded in pupil planners.
  • Bronze, silver, gold and Headteacher Award for merits.
  • Commendation Certificates awarded by Heads of Year
  • Letters to parents by Heads of Year, Pastoral Head, Deputy Heads, Head.
  • Year Award Ceremonies - certificates awarded by Head in presence of Governors and parents.
Sanctions

It is always necessary to have sanctions in order that pupils who fail to respect our code of conduct learn that they must accept responsibility for their actions. We have a variety of sanctions in place at Millthorpe. Parents will of course be involved at an early stage whenever there are concerns about pupil behaviour
