Ofsted
In April 2004 the school was inspected by a team of fourteen
inspectors from Ofsted, the Office for Standards in Education.
The governors were again delighted to receive what was a
highly complimentary report. The report reflects the hard
work and successes achieved by staff and pupils over the
past six years.
“Millthorpe is a good and effective school. The school
is led well, teaching and learning are good and, as a result,
students are achieving well.”
These opening words of
the report set the tone for a positive review of the school’s
continued progress.
High quality teaching underpins much of the school’s
success
“there is a consistency in the amount
of good teaching across the curriculum and across all years.”
A
high proportion of the teaching observed during the inspection
was judged to be good, very good and excellent.
This in turn leads to standards of achievement that are
above average at the end of Year 9 and well above average
at the end of Year 11
“Students achieve well
in all years, including those students with special educational
needs, students from minority ethnic groupings and those
students who are gifted and talented.”
Both the staff and governors were particularly pleased
to note that as part of their overall evaluation of Millthorpe
School the inspectors reported that:
“Students’ attitudes,
behaviour and relationships are good. These, allied to the
positive relationships that exist between students and their
teachers, ensure an effective working atmosphere in lessons.”
The school will look to build on the recommendations contained
in the report as we aim to raise standards still further
in the future.
