Health
The school has medical rooms for illnesses and emergencies
that occur during the day. Parents must appreciate that the
school does not have a matron or anyone with medical qualifications
beyond basic First Aid. We are not allowed to administer
any pills or medicines other than those prescribed by the
family doctor. If your son or daughter is not well enough
to participate fully in school life then s/he should remain
at home. In the event of illness or accident occurring during
the school day, unless the pupil makes a speedy recovery,
we will contact parents or the 'emergency contact' and send
the pupil home. If it appears appropriate for the pupil to
be sent to hospital and parents cannot be contacted, arrangements
will be made to take him or her to hospital. Treatment, however,
cannot be given without parents' consent.
When new pupils enter the school we ask parents for information
on any specific medical condition and particular actions
we should be prepared to take. Clearly, changes or new conditions
do occur and it is obviously essential that the school is
always kept up-to-date on all such matters.
The school operates a “drop-in” session where
the school nurse is available at lunchtime on Tuesdays for
any pupil requiring help or advice. This service is confidential
and may include advice on matters of sexual health in line
with the Government’s strategy on Teenage Pregnancy
Prevention and is advertised to pupils through assemblies
and our PSHCE programme.
