Year 7
Year 7 take part in a variety of activities over the course of the day led by four different departments. Students spend some time investigating the famous mathematician Fibonacci. They also have the opportunity to produce a piece of music using a variety of African instruments. In Citizenship students work with the Local Council investigating fly-tipping as well as designing anti litter posters which are entered into a competition. Finally the PE department introduce students to some new sports from around the world including K-mada and Korfball.
Year 8
Year 8 take part in environmentally themed activities. The day's main event is the eco fashion show, with students designing, making and modelling their clothes in an end of day catwalk. All items are made entirely from recyclable materials! Students also explore the impact they have on the world by calculating their carbon footprint and making a pledge for change. The Geography department also welcome the 'Running Wild' environmental project, who specialise in outdoor activities for young people with an eco-theme.
Year 9
Year 9 visit a variety of museums relevant to the History course:
The Imperial War Museum highlights Twentieth Century conflict and explores testimonies of those who lived to tell the tale. It also allows students to lose themselves in the camouflage exhibit and watch The Big Picture Show to transport themselves back in time.
The Royal Armories is an exciting chance to see and examine First and Second World War artefacts. Students explore mass production of shells and the mobilisation of women workers.
Year 10
Asset French and German students spend time doing focussed work on the Asset 'Can Do' statements before completing some Asset-style assessments.
GCSE French and German students begin preparation for their first Controlled Writing Assessment.
The Science department offer a careers event in which NYBEP invite 6 professionals whose careers involve Science to 'hot seat' with groups of students.
Year 11
Students take part in a series of workshops in which they learn a variety of revision techniques. The techniques include mind-mapping, revision cards, memory strategies, effective use of revision websites and planning a revision timetable. At the end of the day students reflect on which strategies are most appropriate for them and are presented with a challenge to show photographic evidence of how they put the techniques into practice at home.
