Year 9 Activities Week

In Year 9 students get the opportunity to take part in an outdoor activities residential. The residential is planned as part of a community event which involves all Key Stage 3 students during the last week of the summer term. It provides an opportunity to experience a range of ourdoor activities and celebrate friendships and successes in Key Stage 3. Students are able to demonstrate their skills of team work and active participation which are so important in our school community.

Year 9 Residential Information Booklet

For students who do not want to attend the residential there are a range of activities on offer in school to take part in.

Adventure Walking and Survival
This activity will involve trips out of school to places like Brimham Rocks and Dalby Forest. The group will follow Mr Fairclough through thick undergrowth, over boulders to far off destinations away from civilisation. On the way games and challenges will be set out and students will have to work in teams to achieve their goals.

Model Making
There are many aspects of model making that you could consider for this activity from science fiction, fantasy to historical and subject specific. Whatever area you may be interested in this activity will allow you to develop new skills and stretch your imagination. The week will include a visit to Elvington Air Museum for inspiration.

Sports Bonanza
As the title suggests, three days of sporting fun! Mr Walton will take the group to the bowling and laser quest centre at Clifton Moor on one day, run various sports in school on another and finally organise Rocket Ball UK to come into school. Enthusiasm for sport is essential for this activity.

Craft Workshop
Students will design and make a range of textile products similar to those found in the Cath Kidston store, for example, stuffed Stanley dogs, cushions and bags. A trip to town will allow students to visit the Cath Kidston store, take note of the fashions available in different shops and also buy fabrics.

City Beat
A fun filled week of visiting the most exciting tourist spots in York. A dungeon visit, a cruise down the river, a meal out, an open top bus tour and the Yorvik Museum are just some of the things that this activity will include. The three days will be captured in photographs so that a display of the experience can be made.

Amazing Animation Workshop
Learn three different animation techniques in three days! On the Monday you will make plastercine characters then using stop-frame animation make a short cartoon Wallace and Gromit style. On Tuesday you will have the chance to develop your computer animation skills by making an animated advertisement in Flash. On Wednesday you will create an animated music video using collage, digital photography and photostory.

Tex Mex to Tapas
Three days of planning and cooking food from different countries. The occasion will include Italian cuisine, Masterchef Challenge, shopping for local produce and planning and preparing BBQ/buffet food which will include multi-cultural dishes. Students will experiment with, and present their food into a range of appetising dishes. All ingredients will be provided. Students will eat their food for lunch.

Film Makers Extravaganza
Fancy yourself as a budding Steven Speilberg or Danny Boyle? This could be the activity for you! Write, Film, Direct and edit your own movie with the help of Mr Davies. Your imagination and creative streak will be put to the test during the action packed three days.
