Inclusion Support Department

The Inclusion Support Department oversees the provision for students with Special Education Needs, looked after children, children at risk of exclusion, children following a personalised timetable, students with English as an additional language, young carers and students on free school meals.

Our vision is to:

Promote and support an inclusive learning environment, where differences are readily accepted. Individual students have their needs met and are encouraged as confident and independent learners who are able to thrive in school life and beyond.

Our aims are to:

Minimise barriers to learning which may be caused by learning / behavioural / emotional difficulties or socio-economic factors. Ensure all students achieve in line with their expectations. Ensure all students leave school with functional literacy and numeracy skills. Ensure all students leave school with the necessary social and independent skills to make an effective transition to their next place of learning.

Inclusion Support Classroom

The ISC is a supportive base which caters for a minority of vulnerable students. Students may be sent to the ISC following a referral for:

  • Recognised medical condition / complex needs and part of a supportive plan to reintroduce and monitor to mainstream.
  • Students who are persistent absentees and are working towards mainstream increased attendance.
  • Recently bereaved / emotional / social difficulties meaning that close monitoring is required as move into mainstream.
  • Students who are struggling to remain included in particular curriculum areas and require close target setting and monitoring to return to subject lessons.
  • Students who are registered at the ISC to ensure they are settled before starting the day.

The ISC is permanently staffed by a HLTA with additional support provided by TAs on a timetabled basis.

Breakfast Club

At 8.20am staff in the ISC offer toast and warm drinks to invited students and share this important part of the day. Students then go along to registration at 8.45am with equipment checked and missing items replaced. Students also have the opportunity to go through their timetables for the day.

Homework Club

After school students work together in an informal relaxed environment. Juice and biscuits are provided and staff are on hand to answer questions. Students are encouraged to use their planners to help them complete homework before going home at 4.00pm. Computers are available for homework tasks.
