Advice and Guidance on part time work for young people.

Young people are often keen to start some form of employment as soon as possible, mainly to earn a little extra spending money.  However as future employers will value any previous work experience there is good motivation for doing so for all.  It is important though to realise the impact of part time work on young people, especially when the academic work load increases in Key Stage 4.  We work with NYBEP to deliver a session offering advice and support to our students in regard to this.  It goes through all regulations in regard to what age young people can enter employment and what restrictions there are on number of hours worked, etc.  It also clarified the rate of pay young people should expect when being offered part time work.  Please see below for more details.

Making decisions about the future can be daunting and confusing. There are lots of different options available to our students and we want them to be in the best position to make those choices in an informed and knowledgeable way.

Students follow a programme of events in school to help them start considering future career paths and to support them in developing employability skills. The START programme is available for all students to use as a way to focus down areas of interest for further investigation.

In addition we have employed the services of Shine to provide independent and impartial careers advice and guidance. Please click here to read more about the Shine Careers Service.
