We believe that school should help to shape the character of our students, not only through high expectations, but also through the opportunities we provide for them to work together, develop a shared identity and a strong sense of community. Our House system helps us to sharpen our focus on the academic progress students make in their five years at Millthorpe and support their personal growth and development successfully. Our specialist team, working through a House structure, welcome your child in Year 7, get to know them during their first years at Millthorpe and remain responsible for their progress throughout the challenges of Years 10 and 11.

Each House is led by a Director of Achievement who is responsible for monitoring the academic progress of groups of students across the curriculum and leading interventions to secure high standards of achievement. Directors of Achievement work with students to create a distinctive character for their House, providing opportunities for leadership, peer support and a broad base of inter-house competitions. They have an overview of the welfare of their students and monitor behaviour and attitudes to learning.

Student Support Officers work closely with the Directors of Achievement, increasing our capacity to respond to concerns about behaviour and to support children and families facing difficulties. Our team of Student Support Officers have worked with young people in a wide range of different settings and bring specialised skills in areas such as counselling, careers education, alcohol and drugs awareness and youth work.
