We are delighted to be situated so close to the Grand Départ and will be celebrating this once in a lifetime event in school during the week commencing 30 June, culminating in a day of Tour de France themed activities on Friday 4 July.
To fit in with the theme, we are having a non-uniform day and would like all pupils to wear yellow to school on 4 July and of course we hope that as many students as possible will cycle to school.
On the day, we will be asking for donations for the Brain Tumour Charity to support their Headsmart campaign, which raises awareness of symptoms of brain tumours in children to enable early diagnosis and we would like pupils to wear a bandana/headscarf in recognition of this.
We have chosen this cause because it is has been championed by a local family, with children who are or have been students at the school, after their youngest daughter lost her sight as a result of a brain tumour. Early diagnosis is vital in reducing the long-term disability experienced by children and young people diagnosed with brain tumours. More details of the campaign can be found at http://www.headsmart.org.uk/about-headsmart/
The activities in the afternoon will be led by the Modern Foreign Languages Department and will inform pupils about the Tour de France and the relevance of the Grand Départ to our area in 2014.
In the morning, pupils will be in their usual timetabled lessons, but will be taught the subject with a Tour de France or French theme:
|PE||Cycling time trials.|
