MILLTHORPE WEEKLY EMAIL

How are we doing?
You may remember being asked to fill in a questionnaire when you attended parents’ evenings this year. The questionnaire, based on the Ofsted Parent View Survey, asks parents and carers to rate a number of statements ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. We have now collated all of your responses and are pleased to report that the feedback has been very positive and has also highlighted some areas for improvement. We have put together an article on the school website with the full results which you can view by clicking here.

Extra Training Day Wednesday 28 June 2017
A reminder that there is an additional training day on Wednesday 28 June. The reason for this is to give teachers time to write new assessment criteria in response to the government’s decision to remove assessment levels from both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 2. The new system of assessment will also mean changes to how we report to parents and carers in the future and we will inform you about these is due course.

Sports Day Monday 26 June 2017
Sports Day is taking place on Monday 26 June and all students are expected to take part in at least one event to help amass as many points as possible for their Form and House. Students should arrive at school in their usual PE kit along with a tracksuit of similar clothing to ensure they are warm and comfortable while they are not competing. For more information on the arrangements for Sports Day please click here to read the letter on the school website.

Summer Concert Tuesday 4 July 2017
The Summer Concert is taking place on Tuesday 4 July at 7pm in the Main Hall. Tickets are £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for children/concessions and are available to buy from the Dining Hall at break times.

School uniform warm weather arrangements
Running to the end of term, students will not be required to wear their blazer or bring it to school during warm weather, although they can if they choose to. There is no change to the rules about wearing ties. Students should wear their tie to school every day; however, when the weather gets particularly hot, students will be told on the day if and when ties may be removed.

Year 10 Art GCSE Mock Exam
A reminder for parents and carers of Year 10 students studying Art to read the email sent earlier today regarding the arrangements for the Art GCSE mock exam.

Year 7 fortnightly SPaG Focus
The current fortnightly SPaG focus is homophones. You may wish to support your child’s learning by using the supporting resources which are available by clicking here. Visit the literacy page on the school website for the previous SPaG focus supporting resources and other literacy materials.

Year 11 School Uniform Donations
Thank you to the students who donated items of school uniform after the Leavers’ Assembly yesterday. If you have any items of uniform (blazers, jumpers or ties) you would otherwise be throwing away, we can always use them in school. You can drop items into main reception at any time and students can also bring uniform with them to results day on Thursday 24 August.

Traffic Signals Improvements
City of York Council are undertaking a programme of work to renew and improve traffic signals infrastructure across the city. Part of these works includes replacing the traffic signals and minor changes to the footpaths at the crossing on Scarcroft Road near the allotments. The works are planned to begin on Monday 3 July and are expected to last for around two weeks. There will be temporary traffic lights in place and a controlled pedestrian crossing will be provided during construction to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely. For more information please click here to read the letter from City of York Council.
