Extra Training Day Wednesday 28 June 2017
A reminder that there is an additional training day on Wednesday 28 June. The reason for the day is that the government have removed levels from both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 2 and we are now expected to assess without them. Our plans are in place, but our teachers need time to write new assessment criteria for our current schemes of teaching. This is the reason for the additional training day. The new system of assessment will also mean changes to how we report to parents and carers in the future and we will inform you about these in due course.

York Pride Parade Saturday 10 June 2017
A reminder that the York Pride parade is taking place tomorrow and we would like to invite students and their families to join us. We will be meeting outside the Minster from 11am, just look out for the Millthorpe banners and t-shirts! The parade will take us from the Minster, through the city centre and then to the Knavesmire via Skeldergate and Bishopthorpe Road. The main York Pride event then runs from 1pm to about 6.30pm at the Knavesmire, with stalls, live music, food, drinks, and other family-friendly activities.

News from South Bank Academy Trust
Following detailed discussions with the Department for Education and the Local Authority, the Trust is pleased to announce that we have secured sufficient funding to support school improvement work with York High. This gives us the confidence we need that we can succeed at York High, without having any negative impact on Millthorpe. We will now move to bring York High into the MAT by Spring 2018. Between now and then, we will be working in partnership with City of York to begin the work of improving York High’s finances and standards as quickly as possible.

As part of this process, Trevor Burton will become Executive Headteacher of both Millthorpe and York High with effect from 1 September. We will be assisted by two newly-appointed Heads of School, Gemma Greenhalgh and Rod Sims, who will be responsible for much of the day-to-day operation of Millthorpe and York High respectively. We’re delighted to have such a strong leadership team in place across the two schools. A full statement outlining the new arrangements is available on the Trust’s website.

Previously, we’d informed you that Acomb Primary School was exploring the possibility of joining the South Bank MAT. Having considered their options in more detail, Acomb’s governors have now decided they feel our MAT is not the best fit for their school. We wish them well for the future.
