As you are hopefully aware by now, the GCSE exams begin on Monday 15 May. Students have been given an Exam and Revision booklet which contains information on exam arrangements as well as some useful dos and don’ts for over the exam period. The main part of the booklet is a timetable of all the exams and revision sessions. A copy of this booklet is available on the school website by clicking here.
All exams and revision sessions are on the calendar page on the school website; you can subscribe to the school calendar by clicking the iCal button to add school events to your calendar app. We will also be tweeting reminders over the exam period on the school Twitter account @MillthorpeNews.
Year 11 GCSE Art
Well done to all our Art students who handed in their coursework today. Following final assessment of both coursework and exam projects, student work will be stored securely over the summer until the moderation process is complete. Students will be invited to collect their art work just before Christmas when they are presented with their GCSE certificates. AQA request that work remains in school until the end of September. If your child needs to attend an interview, they will be able to borrow their work back overnight. Please contact the Head of Art, Mrs Cockburn, on email@example.com to arrange collection. Please note that some GCSE work will remain on display at school until May 2018. If your child borrowed equipment/materials from the Art Department, please return these to school next week.
Staff Training Early Closure Monday 22 May 2017
A reminder that school will finish at 2.20pm on Monday 22 May 2017 for staff training.
As we approach the end of year exam season, it is a good opportunity to remind you that all students are expected to have a calculator as well as other maths equipment in every maths lesson and for their exams. The calculator needs to have scientific functions; these are available to buy in school from any maths teacher or the Maths Office for a cost of £5. You don’t have to buy the school supplied calculator; however it is important to realise that different models often work in different ways and, although teachers do their best to help students use a non-school calculator, without the instructions this can sometimes be difficult.
The Maths Department are offering students the opportunity to buy an exam pencil case which includes a pen, pencil, ruler, pair of compasses, protractor, rubber and pencil sharpener in a clear pencil case. These are available to buy from the Maths Office for £2.
If your child will be observing Ramadan this year please let us know if there is anything we can do in school to support them during this time.
Year 9 Languages Grammar and Translation Workbook
Students in Year 9 start their GCSE Modern Foreign Languages this term and to enhance the resources we provide as part of these courses in school, we are encouraging students to purchase a ‘Grammar and Translation Workbook’ at a cost of £4. The workbooks, produced by Pearson, are designed to support the AQA specification and comprise three sections: Grammar and Translation; Translation in Practice; and Verb Tables.
We strongly recommend that all students purchase this valuable resource for the start of the new academic year as teachers would like to be able to set homework tasks from it. You can purchase a workbook using ParentPay; students can then collect a copy from their languages teacher.
