As you may be aware Millthorpe is currently in the process of becoming a Fairtrade School. This means joining a worldwide movement where young people learn that, whatever their age, they have the power to make a difference in the world.
We have now achieved FairAware status thanks to students and staff reflecting on their knowledge about the Fairtrade Foundation. This is a timely achievement as we are halfway through Fairtrade fortnight.
Before half term, Year 7 students were encouraged to ‘make a switch’ in their daily lives to ensure they were buying Fairtrade. We would like to thank all parents and carers who got involved with this. Our attention has now turned to the next stage in the process: becoming a FairActive School. We have launched this with Fairtrade fortnight activities, run by our newly set up group of Fairtrade Ambassadors. Every break time this week the group have been selling Fairtrade chocolate outside the Geography department. This will be expanded upon next week when they will be selling luxury, Fairtrade hot chocolate for 50p at breaktimes.
Thank you for supporting us with this venture and helping farmers in developing countries.
