LGBT History Month takes place every February across the UK and highlights the past struggles and achievements of lesbian, gay, bi and trans people with the aim of promoting and advancing equality and diversity for all.
As a Stonewall school Millthorpe celebrates diversity and equality all year round with LGBT themed assemblies and participation in the Raise Your Rainbow day and York Pride Parade in June. For LGBT History month we are inviting students to take part in OutWord Bound, an LGBT-themed writing competition for young people aged 11 to 16. Entrants are asked to write a piece of fiction, non-fiction or poetry of up to 1,00 words, focusing on any aspect of LGBT life. Some ideas include:
- The theme of LGBT History Month- Citizenship, PSHE and Law
- Other LGBT history topics
- Personal experiences
- Coming out
- Equality and diversity related to LGBT issues
