Last month the student council launched a collection to fill rucksacks with essential items for unaccompanied children living in the refugee camps in Greece. The response has been overwhelming and we would like to thank everyone who donated for the kindness and generosity. The rucksacks were collected on Wednesday and will be on their way to Greece in a week or so.

As a school we have worked hard over the years to deliver independent careers information and guidance and we have embedded a strong programme for our students providing advice, support and information on their choicespost-16. This year we are expanding this programme to offer a more rounded and comprehensive progression programme through to Key Stage 5. Highlights of our provision include:
- The upcoming ‘Exploring Pathways’ eventon 5 December, which provides Year 11 students with opportunities to speak to Sixth Form and higher education providers to help students decide what they will do when they leave Millthorpe.
- It also includes a careers fair, where students can get information and advice from representatives from many local and national employers.
- An introduction to START, an online careers programme that students can use to explore, investigate and plan possible career paths.
- A number of useful links on the school website, including the ‘Shape Your Future‘ booklet.
For more detailed information on our careers provision, please click here to read the letter on the website.
Make Your Mark
This year, over 700 Millthorpe students took part in the Make Your Mark ballot. Organised by the UK Youth Parliament, the ballot gathers young people’s views on the most important issues to campaign on for the year ahead. The efforts of the school council in encouraging as many students as possible to participate put Millthorpe in the top 5 most improved schools in the country. You can read more about this important exercise in democracy by clicking here.
