Children in Need Friday 18 November
There will be a non-uniform day on Friday 18 November in support of Children in Need. Donations of £1 for non-uniform will be collected by Tutors next week and Directors of Achievement have promised to don fancy dress outfits if students raise an additional £100 per House. We will also be holding a bake sale to help raise money and any donations of baked goods would be very gratefully received. Any cakes should be taken to C8 on Thursday or Friday morning and will be available to buy at lunchtime on Friday.
Year 11Post-16 Taster Days Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 January 2017
A reminder that the Post-16 Taster Days for Year 11 students are taking place on Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 January 2017. All students must attend a Taster Day on Tuesday 10 January and are welcome to attend further sessions on Thursday 12 January.
The Taster Days are an excellent way to experience what it will be like at a college or sixth form school and give opportunities to sample courses and ask questions of both staff and other students. The jump from GCSE to A Levels, BTECs, Vocational Courses and Apprenticeships can seem huge and the Taster Days can help answer questions or concerns ahead of applying and attending the following year.
Please visit the Post-16 Education page for information and booking details for each post-16 provider. Please note, not all providers are offering sessions on both of the days. Paper copies of this information is available in school; alternatively students can apply online through each provider’s website. We will be asking students to confirm with us which taster sessions they are signed up to attend but it is their responsibility to book their own places. If students need any further support with this process they can speak to Mr Gillbanks or Mrs Anderson.
GCSE English Literature Revision Guides
The English Department are offering Year 10 and 11 students the opportunity to purchase revision guides to support them with their GCSE English Literature revision. The cost of these guides is £2.75 each. If you would like your child to have these revision guides, please ask them to bring correct money to the English Office. Pupil Premium students will be provided with these guides free of charge.
Revision guides are available on the following texts: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, Blood Brothers and the Power and Conflict Poetry Anthology. All students are studying the poetry anthology. If your child is not sure which Literature texts they are studying, they should check with their teacher first before buying the guides.
A reminder that we are currently consulting on our Year 7 admissions arrangements for the 2018-19 year, i.e for those children moving to secondary school in September 2018 (currently in Year 5). The draft admissions policy can be found by clicking here. City of York Council coordinates admissions for all schools in York and is conducting this consultation on our behalf. You may read about it and make comments regarding any of the schools in the Trust at www.york.gov.uk/admissionsconsultation. The proposed policy for Millthorpe School 2018-19 is identical to the previous policy with no changes in criteria or catchment area. You have until Friday 16 December 2016 if you would like to respond to the consultation.
