Our Role

Millthorpe's governing body consists of members drawn from parents, staff, Local Authority representatives and members of the local community, as well as the Headteacher. It is led by the Chair of Governors (elected annually from the membership of the governing body).

We take ultimate responsibility for the well being of the school. While we are not closely involved with the day-to-day running of the school, we must ensure that it is fully staffed, financially secure and that its pupils are succeeding. We act as a "critical friend" to the Headteacher, discussing the strategic direction of the school and its long-term plans.

The governors meet once every half term as a whole group to discuss and approve (or not) matters about Millthorpe. Much of the work, however, is done in the committees that meet about once a term, to address particular issues - Finance, Staffing, Premises and Curriculum - as well as occasional issues such as Discipline and Appeals. Copies of policies and Full Governing Body minutes are available for inspection in school. Parents are welcome as non-voting observers at our Business Meetings; please contact the school office if you would like to attend.
