Physical Education
Department
The PE department is committed to developing an enthusiasm
and passion for sport. We aim to develop pupils’ understanding
and appreciation of sport through participation, analysis
and enjoyment. All pupils have enormous potential: it is
the goal of each member of the PE department to enable pupils
to improve their skills, fitness and physical capabilities.
Although having successful school teams is seen as important
by many, developing as yet untapped potential is and always
will be the real wonder of physical education.
Pupils are taught a wide range of sports from the traditional
to the not so well known. The curriculum is delivered by
our well qualified P.E staff with occasional input from outside
specialist coaches.
Facilities are good. We have a range of outdoor pitches,
tennis and netball courts, a large sports hall, a gymnasium
and fitness suite. Pupils are encouraged to participate in
a wide range of lunchtime and after school activities which
enhance and complement the curriculum. Inter form and inter
school sports fixtures are enjoyed as an extension of such
activities. The school continues to enjoy success in district,
regional and national competitions.
Leadership skills are developed specifically in Year 10
where pupils are given the option to follow the Sports Leader
Award.
GCSE P.E. is an increasingly popular option at KS4. |
