Syllabus
The department follows a detailed syllabus. The content
of this syllabus is adapted each year in the light of experience,
outside demands and the needs of a specific year group.
YEAR 7 students receive three hours of English each week.
Classes are taught in mixed-ability forms.
Assessment of this year group is based upon coursework
assignments and exercises completed during the three terms.
A ‘writing’ exam is undertaken by all students
during the Spring Term and a ‘reading’ examination
during the Summer Term.
YEARS 8 /9 students receive three, one hour lessons a week.
At the beginning of Year 8, the teaching groups are re-organised
according to the needs of that particular year group. Those
students requiring more individual tuition than the mixed-ability
groups afford are placed in smaller (S/L) groups. Such groups
follow the same agreed schemes of work as the students in
the mainstream, mixed-ability groups.
Assessment is based upon coursework assignments and written
examinations. The coursework assignments set cover the N.C.
PoS and provide the basis of Teacher Assessment at KS3.
YEARS 10/11 students receive three and a half hours of
English per week.
Students entering Year 10 are re-organised into different
teaching groups depending upon KS3 results and teacher recommendation.
Normally, the pattern of mixed-ability and S/L groups continues.
All students in these years follow the AQA English and English
Literature GCSE courses. |
