Drama Department
Students at Key Stage 4 have the option of studying the AQA GCSE Drama course.
This is a practical course for those who enjoy working in Drama and who wish
to improve their skills in the subject. The course is open to all students
that enjoy Drama and the willingness to work hard, both alone and with others,
to share ideas and to be prepared to ‘have a go’ is more important
than acting experience.
As well as script-based work, students devise and perform their own work
and create theatre –in-education programmes. Students are also given
an introduction to technical skills such as lighting, design and stage management.
In addition to nurturing an interest in and understanding of the theatre,
we aim to develop in students transferable life skills such
as group and self awareness, creative and social skills and increased confidence
in communication skills.
This subject is useful for students wishing to take up jobs working directly
with the public and is an excellent platform for the further study of AQA ‘A’ Level
Drama and Theatre Arts and other further qualifications in Drama or Performing
Arts.
The department is strongly committed to supporting extra-curricular Drama,
including working with other departments to stage the school’s annual
dramatic production. After the recent successes of ‘‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ (2005), 'Bugsy Malone' (2006), rehearsals are underway for this years production of 'The Wizard of Oz' with performances on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd November.
