Religious Education
RE at Millthorpe aims to not only to develop an understanding
of our religious and cultural heritage but also to foster
an awareness of all world religions.
The subject also provides
a platform for young people to explore their ideas about
major moral and spiritual issues.
All pupils have one lesson
of RE every week, except for Year 10 where they have one
lesson every fortnight. All lessons are taught in our two
dedicated classrooms.
In Years 7 and 8 pupils are taught RE
in tutor groups and we follow the City of York Agreed Syllabus.
In Year 9 all pupils start the GCSE Short Course which continues
through to the end of Year 11.
Millthorpe pupils have achieved
very well in this and the department has been commended by
both the governors and the local Standing Advisory Committee
for RE for our results.
“Teachers use their very good
subject knowledge to plan lesson activities that stimulate
students to work things out for themselves and to develop
their study skills through discussion, careful listening
and critical observation.” Ofsted
