Years 10 and 11
Assisted by a programme of guidance in Year 9, pupils have
a degree of choice of courses although this is limited to
ensure they all follow a broad and balanced range of subjects
leaving all doors open for the future.
Core Curriculum
- English: All pupils follow English and English Literature,
the vast majority taking GCSEs in both.
- Mathematics: All pupils follow a GCSE course.
- Science: The majority of pupils currently obtain two
combined GCSEs which, if sufficiently high grades are obtained,
are an excellent preparation for any or all of the three
separate sciences at A level.
- Language: French or German GCSE - both languages can
be taken. A small number of pupils will study an entry
level course in Spanish
- RE: All pupils follow a GCSE half course
- ICT: All pupils follow a GCSE half course
- Physical Education and Personal, Social, Health and
Citizenship Education.
Optional Subjects
In addition to the above pupils can select three further
subjects to study at GCSE level. These are currently chosen
from the following list:
Art, Drama, Food Technology, French, Geography, Graphics,
Health and Social Care*, History, Leisure and Tourism*, Manufacturing*,
Music, Physical Education, Resistant Materials, Textiles
Technology.
*These subjects are Dual Award GCSEs and therefore count
as two subjects.
Early Bird and Twilight Language Lessons
Pupils can study a second foreign language, French or German,
without restricting their choices by attending classes before
the normal school day begins. Those who have studied Italian
after school during years 8 and 9 can continue to study the
language up to GCSE level by attending classes after school.
